Anyone following his career would know that London Cypriot-born singer Kyriacos Georgiou has been enjoying huge success in Greece and a few other countries.

With the release of his new single ‘Pou Na To Fantasto‘, London Greek Radio caught up with Kyriacos exclusively to talk about the song and his summer tour.

The track is “a summer vibe Greek-pop Laika single” according to Kyriacos with an upbeat, and catchy sound, about the blossoming of a summer romance. The opening verses start with the singer’s reflective thoughts about losing their “mojo”, that suddenly changes once he encounters this person, as love sprinkles a little magic.

The song has already gone straight into the London Greek Radio playlists.

Composed by Lefteris Kintatos, a songwriter in Greece at the top of his game; he has several hits under his belt for Konstantinos Argiros, with songs ‘Ti Na To Kano’, ‘Sti Diki Mou Agkalia’ and ‘Oso Niotho’.

Kyriacos said, “He is one of the biggest Greek hitmakers right now. I am absolutely thrilled that he composed a song for me.”

Last winter, Kyriacos supported and performed alongside Natasa Theodoridou, Petros Iakovides and Stan in Thessaloniki and in Athens.

Kyriacos announced his summer tour with Natasa Theodoridou and Stan which means he travels around Greece and Cyprus, including Ptolemaida, Serres, Hydra, Fanari, Sikouriou Larisa, Alexandroupolis, Zakynthos, Halkidiki, Rhodes, Antiparos, Monemvasia, Nafplio, Kavala, Petroupoli, and Patras.

He visits Limassol, Agia Napa, and the Cypriot capital Nicosia for the Beer Festival in September, in the Cyprus leg of his tour.

Kyriacos is currently engaged in career-boosting talks with bouzoukia bosses, to confirm exactly where his performances will be for Athens and Thessaloniki this winter.

Singer Tamta, has officially recorded the Cypriot entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest at studios in Stockholm, Sweden.

She will sing ‘Replay‘, described as an up-tempo pop “banger”, at the 64th annual contest in Tel Aviv this May.

Georgian-Greek singer, Tamta Goduadze, 38, was announced as CyBC’s artist to represent Cyprus last December, officially instigating the Cypriot ‘well-drilled’, organised Eurovision machine quite early this year.

The song’s composer Alex Papaconstantinou AKA Alex P, was the man behind Eleni Foureira’s ‘Fuego’ – last year’s impressive runners-up position in the competition.

He has been assisted by Sweden-based songwriters Teddy Sky, Viktor Svensson, Kristoffer “Bonn” Fogelmark and Albin Nedler.

The songwriters have penned hits for some of the biggest-named artists in music such as One Direction, Mark Anthony, Demi Lovato, Avicii, MO, 5SOS, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Arash and more.

Tamta told Cypriot TV, (translated) “I’m going to (sic.Tel Aviv) without forecasting what position Cyprus will achieve. I hope that what we will present on stage will make you proud. I’d like to thank everybody for their support and hope that you stand by me on this wonderful Eurovision journey.”

Tamta revealed that she felt that the tune complimented her signature pop-style credentials and she was impressed with the creative team behind the track, which convinced her to fly the Cypriot flag in the competition.

She is soon to start filming the official music video to the Eurovision track this month.

The release date for the Cypriot tune is confirmed for March at the earliest, which enhances the fans’ excitement even more.

Cyprus competes in the Eurovision first Semi-Final on Tuesday 14th May at 8 pm GMT.

After weeks of teasing the world with only the title ‘Fuego’, the Cyprus Eurovision entry by Eleni Foureira has finally been released.

We were promised an ethnic up-tempo track and Eleni has certainly lived up to that script, releasing her official Eurovision music video for ‘Fuego’ on March 2nd.

The video is filmed at the Piraeus Municipal Theatre and Armeniakos Home, by well-known Greek director Apollon Papatheocharis.

Eleni will be Eurovision “eye-candy” and impresses with her absolutely stunning looks in the many outfit changes we see in the video. The song’s theme undoubtedly demonstrates Eleni’s sense of empowerment, one in which she’s taking full charge of her fate and destiny.

As the video climaxes to its final scenes, Eleni flicks a lighter which sets a car ablaze; providing the video with a somewhat ‘iconic’ moment. Maybe a little ‘trigger-finger’ compliant, we think it may be wise to avoid giving a lighter to Eleni, right?

Her Cypriot entry is penned by composer Alex Papaconstantinou, or Alex P, a Greek-Swedish producer, well-known in Eurovision circles. He collaborates on the tune with Geraldo Sandell, Viktor Svensson, Anderz Wrethov and Didrick.

The song is a well-produced, radio-friendly hit and has entered the London Greek Radio play-list; one that is certain to be heard numerous times in the weeks ahead.

The progressive track starts with atmospheric nuances of clarinet and rather excitingly the track’s speed at 101 beats per minute, includes quiet pre-drops before each chorus. The great pop catchy ‘hooks’ are comprised of useful clarinet riffs, adding the ethnic feel to it.

Cypriot broadcaster CyBC confirmed that Greek star Eleni Foureira would fly the flag at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon earlier this year.  CyBC chiefs felt that the Albanian-born singer was right for this year’s contest as the up-tempo song compliments Eleni as a singer and dancer.

She is charismatic, who’s stage-skills are expected to ”attack” the Cypriot entry effectively which will no doubt, help this upbeat song.  Sacha Jean-Baptise will be responsible for the Cypriot stage concept; She is a Swedish director with Eurovision pedigree under her belt.

Eleni was born in Fier, Albania and is a Greek artist of Albanian origin. She has lived in Greece from a very young age when her family settled in Kallithea, Athens.

In the last few years, Eleni has released four successful studio albums and multiple singles. One of those hits was ‘Sto Theo Me Paei’, a Greek cover of the 2015 Eurovision entry of Israel ‘Golden Boy’ by Nadar Guedj.

More recently she has released singles in both Greek and English and in 2017 scored an international hit with the song ‘Send For Me’, a collaboration with successful producer and rapper A.M. SNiPE.

The Cypriot delegation will be quietly optimistic about their qualifying chances for a fourth year, following the recent successes by Minus One, John Karayiannis and Hovig.

The First Eurovision Semi-Final airs on Tuesday 8th May, at 8pm on BBC 4. Eleni will perform 19th – last in the running order, considered by many as one of the preferred positions in the draw.

It has also been revealed that the UK is voting for the first Eurovision semi-phase competition. The tele-voting accounts for 50% of the vote, with the other 50% from music expert jurors, which will decide the Top 10 qualifying countries.

The Eurovision Final takes place on Saturday 12th May, on BBC One and London Greek Radio wishes Eleni Foureira the very best of luck in the competition.

Cyprus has confirmed that Greek star Eleni Foureira will be the Cypriot representative for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest held in Portugal.

Cypriot broadcaster CyBC made the official announcement and the title of her entry ‘Fuego’ (Spanish for “It’s Fire”), is written by Alex Papaconstantinou, or Alex P, a Greek-Swedish producer, well-known in Eurovision circles.

The up-tempo Eurovision track has a distinctive, maybe even innovative, ethnic feel with it sometimes being referred to as “ethno upbeat”.

It is a modern pop song that embellishes the instrument of the clarinet or ‘klarino’ as a familiar ethnicity trait in Greek, as well as Mediterranean music.

CyBC chiefs felt that the Albanian-born singer was right for this year’s contest as the upbeat song compliments Eleni as a singer and dancer.

Eleni, who will be 31 by the time of the contest in May, began her music career in 2007 as a member of the Greek girl group Mystique, before pursuing a solo career after the group disbanded in 2009. She is charismatic, who’s stage-skills are expected to “attack” the Cypriot entry effectively which will no doubt, help this upbeat song.

The staging of the entry has been assigned to the internationally acclaimed artistic director and choreographer Sacha Jean-Baptiste, who has extensive experience at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Cypriot bosses had ditched ideas of a Cypriot sing-off to find their entry’s hopeful and instead made the offer to Eleni’s Panik Records, therefore, internally selecting her for it.

In a statement, the singer said she felt incredibly honoured to sing for Cyprus and is hoping to set the leader board on fire, with her catchy track.

”I would like to say a big thank you to CyBC and all the Cypriot people, for giving me this opportunity. It is a great honour for me to represent this wonderful country which has supported me that much for all of these years.

She added, “My Eurovision song is called Fuego. It is written in English; only its title is Spanish. I am very glad that Alex has composed such a great song. This has actually been the reason for my positive answer to this Eurovision invitation. My promise is that I will do my best.”

Nevma’, ‘Pio Erota Pethaineis’, ‘Rantevou Stin Paralia’, ‘Anemos Agapis’, ‘Pio Dinata’, ‘Ti Koitas’, and ‘2018 S’agapo’.

Eleni has always desired to be at Eurovision, revealing that it has always been a childhood dream of hers.

In 2016 she proposed ‘Ti Koitas (Come Tiki Tam)’ to the Greek national broadcaster ERT, but they refused it. Greece failed to qualify for the final for the first time that year with Argo.

Eleni almost made it to Eurovision in 2010, when she competed in the 2010 ‘Ethniko Teliko’ with ‘Kivotos Tou Noe’. While she missed out by coming second place, it did not diminish her Eurovision goal, which is lucky for Cyprus as she’s tipped to have a “killer track.”

One of the most popular Greek singers of the last 50 years has refused to represent Cyprus at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Claims that Helena Paparizou turned down the offer were made on Cypriot showbiz portal ‘ShowTime’, which soon spread on Eurovision fan websites.

The Cypriot broadcaster has not yet confirmed or denied the rumour, however, ”Cypriot sources” have suggested that long-term negotiations between them and Helena Paparizou’s team have ended, with the star reportedly to have said ‘no’ to the offer.

The Eurovision champion of 2005 was said to have loved the ”up-tempo ethnic-fused track” that was being prepared for the 2018 contest, but decided that she wasn’t ready to make a third appearance at Eurovision.

London Greek Radio has been following the Cypriot selection this year. It was last heard that a Cypriot sing-off final was to air this month. The television final was to have finalist candidates from the Cypriot auditions, held in November. A three member’s judge’s panel short-listed 24 hopefuls from 64 applicants. In order to impress the Cyprus entry author Alex Papaconstantinou, choreographer Charis Savva and Christer Björkman, producer of Swedish Eurovision selection Melodifestivalen.

As previously mentioned on LGR, Alex P is a well-known producer of Greek-Swedish origin and has co-written hits for Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias and many more. He is known in Eurovision circles with a few Euro-stompers under his belt, including Ivi Adamou’s ‘La La Love’ in 2012 and Sarbel’s ‘Yasou Maria’ in 2007. His most successful entry to date was for the Azerbaijan duo Aysel and Arash, which came third in 2009.

The Cypriot rules have referred to ditching the Cypriot sing-off – as an option. The other solution is both a singer and song is internally selected without a Cypriot contest after all.

Sources claim an official statement is expected to be released shortly confirming the Cypriot entry’s singer/performance artist, who will be singing the Alex P tune.

The island of Cyprus has concluded the first round of auditions that will decide who will represent them in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. The new approach focuses on fresh talent and budding vocalists to see who is right to enter the competition next year.

A limited number of entrants are chosen to audition for the three-member judges; composer Alex Papaconstantinou (Alex P), choreographer Charis Savva and Christer Björkman, producer of Swedish Eurovision selection Melodifestivalen. The first round of auditions was completed in November resulting in the panel’s task of whittling down the number of applicants to 23.

As previously mentioned on LGR, Alex P is a well-known producer of Greek-Swedish origin and has co-written hits for Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias and many more. He is known in Eurovision circles with a few Euro-stompers under his belt, including Ivi Adamou’s ‘La La Love’ in 2012 and Sarbel’s ‘Yasou Maria’ in 2007. His most successful entry to date was for the Azerbaijan duo Aysel and Arash, which came third in 2009. He is responsible for composing the song which will represent Cyprus in Portugal next year. Cyprus’ visual director for last year, Charis Savva was responsible for Hovig’s ‘Gravity’ and has been invited to return to plan next May’s Cypriot performance.

The application procedure has triggered a great deal of excitement across Cyprus and from Cypriots living in the UK. The procedure is anonymous and participants are not expected to be revealed during the local heat stages.

Broadcasters CyBc announced that the Cypriot ”sing-off” will air in January 2018 and the judges will select the finalists who will take part in the Cypriot national final which will be aired on TV.

The overall winner, singing the Cyprus entry will be decided by both the public and a selected jury. The combination of these two sets of votes will determine the winner.

The Eurovision song is expected to be recorded weeks after the Cypriot song contest final and is likely to be released in March.

The Cypriot Eurovision delegation has said that they’re hoping that this new contest gets Cyprus into another Eurovision final.
