Alex Loizou

Entrepreneur Alex Loizou, age 28 is the first Cypriot to make it onto Forbes 30 under 30 list. Alex is originally from Nicosia and his hard work over the last three years in London has paid off. It has earned him a place in the ‘Technology’ category in the famous Forbes magazine.

After finding out about the news, Alex Loizou took to Facebook and Twitter, writing “Awesome to be selected in the Forbes 30 under 30 consumer tech list! Trouva ftw!”

Alex is the co-founder of StreetHub now called Trouva, which is a marketplace that brings independent shops together on the same platform giving them the right technology to fight back against larger chains in the industry. StreetHub got going in 2013 by helping independent fashion retailers find online buyers and drive them to physical stores.

Alex, who graduated from the University of Cologne and the London School of Economics, spoke to Sigma Live English about what this means to him and he explains what Trouva is and the philosophy behind it all.

The main aim is to help urban places in cities such as London to have a platform in selling their unique items. He found that individual shops in London have no real technology to sell their products globally and people can only buy their unique products from the shop itself as they are not well versed with technology and marketing.

‘Trouva.com’ enables these small individual companies to sell globally through this website. Alex says that technology is something these shops need in order to branch out and gain more customers. The Trouva website therefore helps independent boutiques stand out and sell their unique products to more people. “We make boutique shopping simple,” the Trouva website proclaims. “Shop 150 of the UK’s best independent boutiques. All in one place. All online.”

Steve Harvey On Twitter

Steve Harvey On Twitter

The wrong name was announced as the winner of Miss Universe 2015 in Las Vegas last night.

Host, Steve Harvey announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez to be the winner of Miss Universe 2015 but then after she went on stage to receive her crown and perform the ritual wave, he came back on the stage to announce that he had made a mistake and the actual winner in 2015 was Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach (Awkward!)

Not only did he make a mistake on live television, he also made a spelling mistake on his first apology tweet, which he later deleted.

#MissUniverse2015 was one of the biggest trends on twitter last night; there were many jokes and memes about this mistake all over twitter. The reaction was mixed, some people were angry some were sympathetic towards Harvey however most people thought his mistake was hilarious.

Steve Harvey tweeted a second apology on twitter, now with the correct spelling of each candidate in the pageant, “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.” Harvey sent this apology after the public roasted him on twitter about his first apology and calling out the wrong name on live television.

The much anticipated trailer for ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2‘ has finally been released. The sequel is based 13 years after the original film and is centred once more around the much loved Portokalos family. ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ was released in 2002 and made $368 million at the box-office globally, setting the record as the biggest romantic comedy of all time; meaning the expectations for the sequel are high to say the least.

Universal Pictures have finally released the official trailer, which gives fans a good idea of what to expect. The plot centres around Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) and Ian Miller (John Corbett),  who are still lovingly married with a daughter. Their daughter is played by American film and television actress Elena Kampouri. As the plot unfolds we learn that she is applying for distant colleges, to be freed of her over-protective and over-bearing Greek family.

As for the much anticipated second wedding, well it turns out that Toula’s parents, played by Lainie Kazan and Michael Constantine aren’t (technically) married to each other and the film centres around them tying the knot a second time (officially this time).

Returning also for the sequel are Andrea Martin, Louis Mandylor and Gia Carides. New characters include John Stamos and Alex Wollf. Kirk Jones directs this new chapter, which Nia Vardalos once again wrote; Rita Wilson and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goertzman are back to produce.

The long-awaited sequel is set for release on March 25, 2016. Watch the official trailer, here…
