Permanent Secretary of the Cyprus Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Alexandros Zenon, pays Britain a two – day working visit, during which he holds contacts with officials from the UK Foreign Office and the Ministry of Defence.
According to an official press release, Zenon met with Minister of State for the Armed Forces Penny Mordaunt with whom he discussed various issues, including bilateral cooperation in the field of defence and security, new challenges and cooperation for tackling the illegal immigration problem.
They also discussed about the situation in the Middle East and Cyprus’ role for security and stability in the region.
He also met with Defence Ministry`s International Security Policy director Nick Gurr and Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Head of the Diplomatic Service Simon McDonald.
Zenon and McDonald reviewed bilateral relations and discussed issues of administrative reform of the public service and European issues. The Cypriot official also informed him about the latest developments regarding the Cyprus talks with aim at reunifying Cyprus under a federal roof, after it was divided by Turkish troops which invaded Cyprus in the summer of 1974.
