Avgoustinos Galiassos, better known as DJ Avgoustinos, is a prominent Greek DJ. With his fierce determination, captivating style and golden touch on the wheels, he has learnt the scene by living the scene, and now he’s on the other side of the turntables, bringing his soulful, funky, eminently danceable House to the clubs of London.
Born and raised in Athens, Greece, Avgoustinos grew up in a family with a passionate love for music. Being introduced to DJing at an early age by his father provided Avgoustinos with a catalogue of creative skills. Often, he would have been found on the mixer, experimenting with his father’s immense collection of vinyl records. His love of music launched into a full time obsession, soon learning to mix his own favorite music. Listening to dance music, he became wrapped up in the sound of ‘House’, tying together the feel of the rock influences he had first discovered.
At the age of 16, Avgoustinos’ mentoring began as he started DJing alongside his father for friends and family connections, bringing house parties to even wider audiences. Growing in confidence and ability, Avgoustinos’ efforts began to pay off as he gained his first residency at Best Friends Bar in Politia, Athens, Greece in 2001. During this time, he was already playing at numerous private events, such as The Annual Andros Yacht Club Ball and The Piso Gialia Beach Parties.
In 2003, Avgoustinos moved to the UK to pursue his Master’s Degree in Supply Engineering and Logistics at Warwick University. He continued to DJ regularly at student parties as well as Greek party events in London despite his studies. By 2005, Avgoustinos has managed to gain residencies at Café Royal, Paparazzi Member’s Club as well as Baroque in London, though he continued to spin at private events back home, such as Natasha’s Theodoridou private party. Furthermore he played alongside the famous tenor, Mario Fragouli.
In July 2005, Avgoustinos became a founding member of Hellenic Nights, the team behind the most successful Greek nights in London, spinning for glamorous crowds at the most elegant venues, such as Café Royal, The Collection, Divo, No5 Cavendish and currently 1st floor Elysee Bar every Friday and Saturday. Together with Hellenic Nights, Avgoustinos has been hosting the hugely popular London to Athens Party annually in Greece since 2006 at St. George Lycabettus Hotel and at Baraonda Club from 2010. He has also appeared in various Greek prestigious events in London such as the annual Hellenic Bankers association ball at Claridges, the Hellenic engineers annual ball at Dorchester, the Greek Charity Orthodox Organization at the Landmark hotel as well as the Oinoussai ball at the Savoy hotel.
With a flair for getting the crowd pumping, stirring up energy and excitement wherever he perfoms, Avgoustinos has become a name that is growing in familiarity in the music scene and media. He has performed regular live sets on VFM on top of being featured on the Star Channel Evening News in Athens twice and The Net Greek National TV.
He has also Djed at Nozomi, voted best bar restaurant in London 2006-2009, and currently you can find him at one of the most famous bars in the world Buddha Bar in Knightsbridge.
